Your
First Teacher

We reawaken our first teacher each time
we respond to the wisdom in another person. The teachings we embrace on
this journey do not always come from our closest friends or our favorite
relative. My first early yoga teacher said,
teachers do not always appear with angel's wings. Sometimes our best
teachers are those that make you really think and come through challenges they
create for you. She wisely helped me recognize that teachers help to
reawaken our truer self our own divine teacher. This is an
interesting quality. I can respond to any earthly challenge through
struggle and resistance or I can surrender back to my first teacher, my divine
self and find the answers. Your first teacher inspires you to be who you are
completely and without reservations. Your first teacher notices the beauty
you hold and reflects it for you. Your first teacher creates a wealth of wisdom
that resonates with your soul’s journey. Your first teacher challenges
you to reach for your highest good and the highest good of all.
One of my first teachers, my Mom, shared
so much spiritual knowledge by just being. The naturalness of her spirit
and serving others without asking for anything in return was a humbling
beginning for me. And many teachers have come to me since, not always
with hugs and kisses. (Thankfully my Mom's teachings always came with her
embrace).
May you embrace your first teacher's
teachings in all walks of life. May you
recognize the teacher in everyone from the very young to the very old. And may you stay true to your own divine wisdom.
My love and thanks to all of my teachers
especially Annie Chipman and most beautifully, my Mom.
In Memory of Sri Swami Satchidananda 1914-8/18/2002. The first teachings I embraced on my yogic
journey, because of his purity, acceptance of all and his message of truth.
